We are PAWsitively thrilled to announce the addition of our newest team member, Mavis! This cutie was certified by the The San Francisco SPC Animal Assisted Therapy program to work with the adults and children of Sound Speech & Hearing Clinic!
The SPCA AAT Program has over 275 volunteer teams that visit local schools, offices and hospitals throughout San Francisco. The program helps over 80,000 people annually. We are thrilled to have Mavis as a resident AAT dog. He spends his days down the hall with his owner Suzy, and is available to join our patients in their sessions to assist in all therapy activities.
Animal assisted therapy is proven to help both adults and children in therapy sessions. Some of the benefits include: better focus, improved literacy skills, increased self-confidence, reduction of self-consciousness, reduced stress, and perceived less judgment within an environment.
We are currently working with our patients to schedule time to work with Mavis. Let us know if you are interested in scheduling Mavis as a part of your sessions.
