Get Insurance Savvy
/When Melissa and I first started Sound, our knowledge on insurance plans was very basic. We knew what we needed, as clinicians, to place a diagnosis and procedure code on a billing sheet... but that was the extent of our knowledge. As speech language pathologists and audiologists, we are not taught about the world of insurance in our graduate programs. The wonderful world of insurance is often taught through osmosis of a billing department.
Being a small private practice, Melissa and I had to dive head first into learning the terminology of insurance companies in order to help educate our patients, and patients families about the world of insurance. Recently we ran into a great breakdown of insurance terminology by the site Skimm in their feature "NO EXCUSES to not talk about healthcare." The site breaks down the ins and outs of insurance terms and is a great resource for not just our patients, but for our own team.
