Language + Auditory Processing: A True Love Story
This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating one of our favorite love stories at Sound Speech & Hearing Clinic: the partnership between audiology and speech-language pathology in assessing and treating central auditory processing disorder (CAPD)!
Collaboration
With our Sound Auditory Processing Program, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Because we have audiologists and speech language pathologists under one roof, we can provide comprehensive services all in one convenient place. Our team works hand-in-hand, following gold-standard best practices set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Assessment
Each patient receives a comprehensive central auditory processing evaluation with our audiologists and a language processing evaluation with our speech-language pathologists, followed by a meeting to share results and recommendations with the patient and/or family. Together, we identify specific auditory processing challenges as well as any co-occurring written or oral language weaknesses - in order to identify areas for targeted intervention.
Treatment
Collaboration continues long after assessment. Together, our team creates recommendations for environmental modifications, auditory training, and therapy goals. We integrate insights from related evaluations (such as psychoeducational or neuropsychological testing) to create a cohesive and meaningful plan. Therapy is overseen by our speech language team, focusing on language-based interventions to strengthen higher-order skills like memory, attention, and language comprehension.
Our ultimate aim is to help patients fall in love with listening again by enhancing their communication, confidence, and success in academic, professional, and everyday life.
